Rajasthan Sociological Association Constitution
As Amended on 27.12.2009Rajasthan under the Societies Registration Act, 1958 vide no. 216/1973-74, Jaipur.
Memorandum of Association-
-
1. Name : The Association shall be known as the Rajasthan Sociological Association 2. Registered Office : Department of Sociology, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur 3. Objectives : The objectives for which the Association is established are as follows: -
- (a) To promote and pursue the study of sociology and social problems in Rajasthan.
- (b) To organize Conferences, Seminars and Workshops
- (c) To disseminating Sociology knowledge through publication of Journal at least once a year
- (d) Protecting professional interests of sociology with particular references to Rajasthan.
- (e) Affiliating itself with National and International bodies promoting the discipline of Sociology.
- (f) Any other academic activity as decided by the Association from time to time.
- 4. Membership
- (a) The Membership of the Association shall be open to the teachers of the discipline of Sociology, research scholars and all others interested in the discipline of Sociology.
- (b) There shall be only three categories of membership:
- (i) Life Member
- (ii) Research Scholar/Student
- (iii) Institutional Membership
- (c) A person desiring for above membership of the Association may become a member by filling a membership form along with payment of prescribed fee of membership. The form will be submitted to the Secretary of the Association. The Secretary will present the membership form before the Executive Committee for its approval of the membership.
- (d) Membership Fee -
- (i)Life Member - Rs. 3,500
- (ii)Research Scholar/Student - Rs. 700
- (iii)Institutional Membership - Rs. 10,000
- (e) All subscriptions/membership fee shall be payable in favour of secretary, RSA in form of Demand Draft/Cash/Cheque.
- Membership of Research Scholar/Student will automatically expire after one year from the date of depositing the membership fee to the Association. Every Life Member will receive LM numbers and Research Scholar/Student will receive M numbers in the form of receipt. The receipt issued by Secretary or Treasurer or both is the only proof of membership.
- 5. Executive Committee:
- (i) The Executive Committee of the Association will consist of the following:

- N.B. The Treasurer will be nominated by the President from the elected members of the Executive Committee.
- (ii) General Body: the General Body of the Association shall consist of Life Members and Research Scholar/Student Members.
- (iii) Tenure of Office Bearers: The office bearers of the Executive Committee shall be elected for a term of three years.
- (iv) Right to Vote and contest Election: Only Life Members of the Association shall have the right to cast can fill up their nomination to contest for the Executive Committee. Post Life Member can fill up nomination for only one Executive Committee post/Elected Members. (Details can be seen Appendix -2)
- 6. Rights/Power and Duties of office-bearers of the Executive Committee.
- (a) President ?
- (i) The President shall take measures in conformity with the wishes of the Executive Committee as and when necessary.
- (ii) The President shall preside meetings of the Executive Committee and General Body of the Association.
- (iii) President in consolation will Secretary shall appoint an Editorial Board for Rajasthan Journal of Sociology and News letter.
- (b) Vice-President ?
- (i) In the absence or in case of resignation of the President, the Vice-President shall discharge all duties of the President.
- (ii) Since there is provision of Two Posts of Vice-President. The senior Vice President (by Designation/Age) shall discharge all duties.
- (c) Secretary ?
- (i) The Secretary shall be responsible to maintain records of the Association.
- (ii) The Secretary shall convene the meetings of the Executive Committee and the General Body of the Association in consolation with the President.
- (iii) The Secretary shall carry all the correspondences to Executive Committee as well as general members of the Association.
- (iv) The Secretary shall have the power to spend money as sanctioned by the President and the executive committee.
- (d) Treasurer ?
- (i) The Treasurer shall be responsible for the maintenance of accounts (income and expenditure) of the Association.
- (ii) The Treasurer shall get the accounts of the Association duly audited every year by auditors/chartered Accounts as appointed by the Executive Committee.
- (iii) The Treasurer shall present Annual Budget to Executive Committee every year. Treasurer will also present an audited statement of accounts in General Body Meeting of the Association every year.
- (a) President ?
- 7. Election Procedure ?
- (i) Elections of the executive committee will be held only through postal ballots. Only Life Member will form the Electorate and shall be eligible to vote.
- (ii) The Executive Committee will appoint a returning officer at least three months before the expiry of the term of the Executive Committee.
- (iii) Returning Officer will issue a notification for elections at least two months before the elections. The notification will include : (a) Information about the post for which the elections are to be held, (b) Nomination Form (c) Programme of Election.
- (iv) The new executive committee duly elected will take over charge of the officers as soon as the term of the previous Executive Committee expires.
- (v) Any Vacancy caused in the office of the executive body shall be filled in by a fresh election within six months of the office.
- (vi) The Returning Officer will also send the following material to the members at least 20 days before the last date of receipt of the ballot papers which consists of
- (a) Ballot Paper
- (b) Inner Envelope
- (c) Outer Envelope
- (vii) The result of the elections will be sent to all the members within 3 days of counting and declaration of results.
- (viii) Voter list will be supplied to its members on demand on payment basis as decided by the Executive to Treasurer.
- (ix) The Returning Officer shall be responsible to maintain all the secrecy of the election process.
- (c) Meeting ?
- (i) The notices for convening the meetings of the Executive Committee and the General Body shall be posted at least one week and one month before the date of the meeting respectively.
- (ii) The General Body and the Executive Committee of the Association shall ordinarily meet at least once a year.
- (iii) The Quorum of the Executive Committee shall be of 07 members.
- (iv) The quorum of the General Body shall be of 25% of the Life Members. The meeting will be convened at a time decided by President and Secretary.
- (d) Accounts ?
- (i) The account of the Association will be opened and operated jointly by Secretary and Treasurer in a Nationalized/Private Bank.
- 8. Amendment:-
- (i) The amendments in the constitution of the Association shall be mode in accordance with the provisions of section 12 of the Rajasthan societies Registration Act, 1958. As regard of other provisions of these constitution amendments can be made in General Body Meeting in which at least 2/3rd Life Members on roll are present and 3/4th out of those present shall vote for the amendments.
- (ii) The Association may be dissolved by a 3/4th majority of the Life Members present and voting in a meeting specially convened for the purpose, for which at least one month?s notice issued under postal certificate is necessary.
- (iii) The Registrar Societies shall have right to access to the records of the Association as per rule.
- 9. Right of Member :
- (i) All Members who are included in the list of members (both Life/Research Student members) shall have at least one year standing will receive Rajasthan Journal of Sociology and News Letter with paying minimum postal charges.
- (ii) The Executive may take action on raising funds other than subscription of members for improving the financial position of Association.
